Help & Advice

How do I use the system?

  • The system runs itself
  • Check the reading on the generation meter periodically

How much will it save me?

This will vary depending on:

  • System size (number of panels)
  • How the house is used
  • The forecast saving can be found in the handover pack
  • With so many variables it is best not to provide figures

Will the panels produce enough electricity to run my house?

  • There will be times in the year when the solar PV system produces enough electricity to run the entire home
  • However, the best way to view the system is as an annual production, this can be found on the plot MCS certificate

Can I get paid for export / excess?

  • Yes, SEG payments can be arranged with your energy supplier
  •  Customer will need a copy of :
    – G98 approval
    – MCS cert
    – Both can be found in the handover packs
  • Octopus offer the best tariffs for export
  • It is better to use the electric with some behavioural changes rather than export it
  • NB – excludes export limited plots

Can I add batteries?

  • Yes, it is possible
  • There are some stringent guidance surrounding batteries therefore suitable locations of Keepmoat house types are limited
  • Surface mounted retro fit cabling
  • Swap inverter types
  • Expensive

Is there an app for monitoring my usage?

  • Yes, this involves the fitting of a WiFi dongle and downloading the app
  • Dongles cost around £30
  • Property needs WiFi
  • Can be tricky to set up owed to WiFi band types

What warranties do I get?

  • Parts and labour via IWA = 2 years
  • IWA = Independent Warranty Association
  • Included in handover pack
  • Inverter = 12 years
  • Panels = 25 year performance
  • Panels = 12 years product

Why is there a padlock on my isolator?

  • At the time of install the G98 had not been accepted hence the system need to remain switched off
  • G98 applications can be lengthy often longer than the time it takes to build a house
  • Once approved we’ll notify sites to issue padlock codes (000)

What is an export limiter?

  • In areas where the local electricity network is close to maximum capacity the DNO may insist on an export limiter to mitigate the risk of excess electricity discharging to the grid
  • This means the customer may have their potential to export (and be paid) removed or limited
  • Rare but is possible
  • Impacts approx 5% of plots (gut feel)

Where do I find my handover pack?

Why do Solar any other way?
